Hetty Kate & Dan McLean – The Umbrella Man (Album Preview)

Hetty Kate is one of Australia’s first call swing singers for lindy-hoppers and blues dancers, and has performed for swing events in Boston, Seoul and Singapore this year alone. With her clear tone, phrasing, swing and huge repertoire of curios from the hey-day of Hollywood, Hetty has been described as having a ‘natural musicality’ and is gearing up to release her seventh album ‘The Umbrella Man’. An album of hot swing songs, ranging from unknown gems to loved standards made famous in the 30s and 40s, ‘The Umbrella Man’ features an all Canberra band lead by Dan McLean.

For this exclusive preview performance Hetty will be joined by lead trumpet player, arranger and composer Dan McLean who is making his first appearance at The Paris Cat. An exciting and impressive musician, Dan McLean leads his own big band in Canberra and is often called to perform for the Australian swing community at festivals and private events.

“She’s truly one of the best swing-style vocalists (I’m talking 1940, Benny Goodman style 4/4 swing) on the current scene..” Will Friedwald’s Clip Joint USA
