Show 2 (of 2) celebrating two of the most prolific and awarded lyricists of the Great American Songbook.

Spend a musical evening with Hetty Kate as she celebrates the talent and words of one of the great lyricists of the 20th Century, Dorothy Fields. A must for lovers of The Great American Songbook and those with a penchant for lyrics, stories and poetry.

“A song doesn’t just come on. I’ve always had to tease it out, squeeze it out.” Dorothy Fields

Born in 1905, Dorothy Fields grew up in New York City to a family deeply involved in show business; however it wasn’t until her twenties that her career took flight, when she was introduced to composer Jimmy McHugh. Her many collaborations led to some of the most loved songs in the American Songbook, such as On The Sunny Side of The Street (Jimmy McHugh), The Way You Look Tonight (Jerome Kern), Harry Warren (You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me), and Cy Coleman (The Best Is Yet To Come).

During her long career, which brought her an Academy Award, a Tony Award and a Grammy, Dorothy Fields was extraordinarily prolific, writing more then 400 songs. Furthermore, like Johnny Mercer, Fields made the move from Tin Pan Alley to Hollywood where her extraordinary talent for wit, words and wonder along with her natural ability to collaborate and move with the changing times saw her compositions shine in over 20 films.

Now based in Paris, jazz vocalist Hetty Kate has been credited with having a ‘natural musicality’ and being ‘truly one of the best swing singers on the current scene’. A true storyteller and with a recognizable style and effortless voice, Hetty has released eight albums, has performed with Simon Tedeschi, James Morrison and the MSO and regularly performs at festivals in the Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA. These two special Paris Cat shows celebrating Johnny Mercer and Dorothy Fields are part of her Australian tour for 2018.

“A stage presence only matched by the clarity of her voice” James Morrison
