SXJC 2 Year Anniversary – Dusk ‘Til Dawn (S02E06) Friday December 18. 8.30pm – Late (3am-ish)

It’s getting bigger. For our two-year anniversary we’ve curated one hell of a night of jazz, so much so, that we’re opening up the whole Founders Room floor and running it late into the night, and by late, we mean late, just like it used to be in Harlem in the 1920’s!

Maria Lurighi & Dameza absolutely blew us away when they performed a free-style jazz DJ set unlike anything we had ever seen! Now we’re super-excited to bring them back for a midnight DJ-Operatic set in the Founders Room. For those that were there last time you know how thrilling it was to witness this experiment in jazz. This time they have promised to push the boundaries out even further!

Jacqueline Gawler is one of Melbourne’s jazz darlings, frequently performing at Paris Cat, Bennetts Lane, Dizzy’s Jazz Club and Melbourne Recital Hall, she straddles the line of indie jazz/rock and Brazillian funk giving her a sound all of her own. Always the consumate performer a recent Brazillian reviewer said “her voice ranges from delicate, almost childlike, to jazzy seductress…Influences ranging from Joni Mitchell to the Beatles, and meeting Salif Keita along the way.”

Hetty Kate needs no introduction to Sixty Jazz Club fans. She’s performed with us 3 times over the last 2 years and sold out every gig, we consider her a part of our Hobart jazz family. Chantruesse of Swing and having earned the respect of her fellow musicians and the admiration of critics, audiences and devoted fans, her career continues to go from strength to strength.

Last Man Standing will be the final set for this evening of jazz ultra-indulgence featuring the musicians from the Sixty Jazz Club Pilot Episode – our very first gig two years ago. The house band (Matt Boden, Damien Kingston, Alf Jackson and Nick Haywood) will slowly (d)evolve into a riotous all-in jam session that will go until the small hours, with all of our guest artists invited to join in as they see fit plus special guests. Expect hard-swinging, in-your-face jazz, alongside dirty, grungy blues tunes. Experimental rock infused with free-form improvisations. When you throw the cream of Australia’s vocal talent into the ring with an incredible DJ and a rhythm section that takes no prisoners…who will be the last man standing?

There will be one show only.
